UMBILICUS

AREA

• Location

 

The umbilicus area, also known as the belly button, is located in the center of the abdomen, roughly halfway between the pubic bone and the sternum.

 

• Description

 

Located superficially to the descending aorta and inferior vena cava (artery and vein respectively).

 

Some of the potential dangers of massaging the umbilicus area include:

 

- Infections

- Nerve Damage

- Internal Organ Damage

- Pregnancy Complications 

 

This is also the area of the linea alba that can herniate due to pregnancy, weight lifting genetics and obesity.

 

• Treatment Considerations

 

Massaging the umbilicus area should be approached with caution.

 

It is important to avoid applying too much pressure or massaging too aggressively.

 

If any pain or discomfort is experienced during the massage, stop immediately.
