The flexible bone column, extending from the base of the skull to the tailbone.

 

• Description

 

The spine consists of several components the most vulnerable are:

 

▫ The spinal cord,

▫ Nerves,

▫ Spinous processes and,

▫ Intervertebral discs.

 

Damage to any of these can cause long-term pain, dysfunction or loss of sensation.

 

The most severe injury would be loss of motor function. 

 

• Treatment Considerations

 

Avoid applying direct pressure to the spine. 

 

Use light pressure and work around the area instead.

 

Massage techniques that involve compression or stretching of the spine should be avoided.
